
Born on September 30, 1980, in Rockford, Illinois, USA, Virgil Abloh grew up in a time when hip-hop, streetwear, and art merged. His formative years were shaped by the hip-hop culture of the 1990s, which would heavily influence his later work. Abloh developed an early interest in design and art, expressing his creativity through graffiti and DJing.
After graduating in civil engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Abloh decided to pursue his passion for fashion and design. He began his journey into the fashion industry as an intern at Fendi in Rome, where he met Kanye West. This encounter would lay the foundation for a creative partnership that would change the face of fashion. Abloh served as a creative consultant and art director for Kanye West, playing a significant role in the development of West’s iconic album “Watch the Throne.”
